Mozart’s fantastical opera glitters in David McVicar’s enchanting production. A star cast including Lucy Crowe as Pamina, Amitai Pati as Tamino, Huw Montague Rendall as Papageno, Kathryn Lewek as the Queen of the Night, and Soloman Howard as Sarastro, led by French conductor Marie Jacquot in her Covent Garden debut.

Thanks to the generosity of Kingsley George and Wolfgang Schaeffer, Mid Wales Opera returns to the wonderful garden at Cwm Weeg, Dolfor near Newtown for the annual garden concert this summer. With grottos and wildflowers, woodland walks and established herbaceous borders this garden has something for everyone to enjoy.
A colourful bandstand provides cover for the concert in case of rain; tea and coffee will be available during the long interval.
Bring a picnic to enjoy in the break, or take a walk. You never know what you might find in this hidden garden in the rolling hills of mid Wales - a place where legends take root and musical magic rises from the soil.

The Fodens Band

Founded in 1900 in the Cheshire village of Elworth to celebrate the relief of Mafeking, Foden’s Band has grown from humble beginnings into one of the most celebrated brass bands in the world.
Adopted early on by local industrialist Edwin Foden and renamed Foden’s Motorworks Band, the ensemble quickly established itself as a dominant force in brass banding. Over the decades the band has built an extraordinary contest record, including multiple British Open and National Championship titles, as well as a remarkable double hat-trick of British Open victories in the 1930s.
Today, Foden’s continues to perform at the highest level, with a reputation for exceptional musicianship and innovative programming. The band has toured internationally, appeared regularly on BBC television and radio, and performed in many of the UK’s leading concert halls. They were also crowned North West Regional Champions in March.
Alongside its elite performance schedule, Foden’s is deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of musicians through its Youth and Junior Bands, international solo competitions and youth festivals.
Recent years have continued to bring major success, including National Championship victories in 2018, 2021 and 2022, and in 2023 the band was crowned British Open Champions for a thirteenth time, as well as Brass in Concert Champions
